Arlington Academy of Hope -- Gala & Art Auction
Painting a Brighter Future for the Children of Uganda

October 26, 2007-- Arlington, VA

Arlington Academy of Hope (AAH) is dedicated to building a foundation for hope in rural Uganda by providing access to quality education and basic healthcare for children in one of the world's poorest countries. Their primary school in Bumwalukani village enrolls more than 300 students in seven grades providing dedicated teachers, individual attention and a supportive learning atmosphere. In three years, it has become the model school for villages in eastern Uganda. Their clinic built in 2006 provides immunizations and basic healthcare to students, their families and the local community. More than 3,000 patients have been cared for since September 2006. Their secondary education program launched in 2007 provides scholarships to AAH and select local students helping them continue their education and reach for their dreams.

At the gala there were delicious hors d'oeuvres and desserts, beer, wine and other refreshments. The silent auction featured beautiful works from African and American artists, trips at resorts and other items.  At the last minute Bono actually donated one of his paintings to be auctioned off as well!  Entertainment included African drumming and a local rock band, Heather's Headache.  The purpose of the event was to raise critical funds to purchase books for the new AAH library, to provide scholarships for AAH students going to secondary school and to sustain and strengthen the AAH model primary school in Bumwalukani village.
